When I told my buddies that I did a small KAMA Ayurveda haul, everyone was eager to hear about the Kumkumadhi face oil/serum. After giving about 100’s of brief reviews orally, I decided that I have used it enough to give do a review post and here it is.

Why I decided to try out Kama Ayurveda’s Kumkumadhi Oil?
I had started preparing for my exams and my work schedule at office was also getting tiresome. As a result of which, I had developed dark circles around my eyes and my skin looked dull and tired all the time.
I had used the Kumkumadhi Oil from Kottakle Arya Vaidhya Sala long back and it was very good. As they have closed their store, I found it hard to get one.
My Skin type is extremely sensitive, acne prone and combination-dry. Due to the recurrence of acne, i had severe scarring too. Whenever i start to think i look pretty, a fresh breakout session is all i require to teach me some humility. Lol
What is Kumkumadhi Oil:
Winner of second price in the INNOVATION AWARD 2008 of Professional Wellness Expo Kortrijk. Prescribed in Ayurveda to illuminate complexion and even skin tone. This unique blend of oils and herbs is formulated to help skin look young and healthy. In Ayurveda, rare saffron helps illuminate skin color. How to use it:
The SA told me to use it the exact same way as mentioned in the directions i.e., dampen my cleansed skin with their toner or a pure rose water, apply just 4-5 drops of this on my face and massage until it gets absorbed.
Since it has saffron in it, it is slightly staining so if you are someone who sleeps on pillows with white covers, you may have to cover it up with a darker towel or something.

Review:
It comes in a small dark glass bottle with a free dropper. The instruction leaflet is also enclosed.
I used just as advised and after 3-4 days of continuous usage, though I noticed a visible glow, I started getting breakouts on my jaw line and cheek area. They were all cystic and painful. It took a day or two for me to understand why that was happening.
As this is a highly concentrated Ayurvedic product and is sesame oil based, usage should be as per one’s skin type. Acne prone - Sensitive skin may not be able to tolerate the prescribed 4-5 drops as it may clog pores. So I started reducing the quantity and increasing my skin’s dampness so that I can work a smaller quantity into my skin.

Once I started reducing the quantity the breakouts subsided and things went back to normalcy.
As I said, the main concern was dark circles and dullness. This is indeed a miracle product for dark circles. I did an eye makeup recently and I was so happy to realize that my under eye area looked so bright. I had not used any base makeup. I am very happy with this product’s effect on my dark circles. You must check it out if you have dark circles! The best thing is, it did not “whiten” the area but rather worked on the dark circles and brightened the skin.
Now comes to skin dullness. My skin has now become so soft, bright and naturally glowing. Though this product did not have any effect on my breakouts, it did lessen the intensity of my acne scars and brightened my face.
I would not call the effect as skin lightening. It is, as they claim illuminating. But it did help me to go back to my basic skin color by eliminating tan and dark patches. I was known for my NC42-41 skin and recently when i went to buy a mac foundation, i was told that my skin tone is NC 40.
It is priced at INR. 1350/- which some of you might feel as costly. If you ask me, it is not costly at all. I remember buying tiny eye-drops like bottle from Kottakle shop for INR. 350/- three-four years ago. Here, you get a generous 15 ml which will last for good 3-4 months plus a dropper for mess-free application. The packing also looks luxurious.

My under eye area devoid of any foundation/concealer: Taken immediately after i finished a simple eye look using maybelline chai latte quad.
