Tips and Toes Red Carpet Gel Polish in Mesmerize Me
First of all, it is NOT a textured polish. Mesmerize me is a sheer berry pink polish with lots of fine blue, pink, red and green glitter particles suspended to it. On its own, it is pretty sheer so I have layered it on beige nail paint from Faces cosmetics. It looks good on a black base too.

Tips and Toes Red Carpet Gel Polish in Mesmerize Me
Tips and Toes Red Carpet Gel Polish in Mesmerize Me has a runny formula
The formula is pretty runny and thin. Even on top of an opaque polish, it requires two-three coats to reach desired opacity. It dries off pretty quick and lasts as long as you want them to.

IMO they could have added a pink or blue larger glitters. I have added a thin layer of clear polish with polygon shaped big pink glitter pieces.

What I liked in this polish is its drying time and staying power. The NOTD’s were done three days ago and apart from negligible fading at the tips, I don’t have anything to complain about.

A surprising factor with this one is, it comes off easily with a decent quality nail polish remover.

My hair smoothening experience

$

Hello friends,

I am back and I am going to share my hair smoothening experience with you all today. When I wanted to get a hair treatment done, I found it extremely difficult in searching for a balanced post detailing the after-math effects.

I went ahead and got a smoothening treatment done in December 2013. I did it at a reputed salon after doing lot of research and the brand which was used was L’Oreal. In hair smoothening, they leave the product for a lesser time compared to hair straightening. I opted for smoothening as I don’t like the poker straight hair. But the result was poker straight for the initial few months. L

I am not going to delve much on the procedure as we all know about it. I am going to speak more about the aftermath.

I am not supposed to pin, tuck or tie my hair for the three days after which I will be given a hair wash and conditioning treatment by the salon. So, i got the treatment done during the holidays.

Let me start with what i liked about my smoothened hair.

  • My hair looked longer, shinier and with the density of hair I had, it was the most glorious moment of my life. It looked as if I walked out of a shampoo commercial.
  • Grooming my hair took hardly 10 minutes. No more fizz and unruly hair.
  • As I have mild wavy hair, the re-growth did not look bad. It looked very natural.

And now, to the Dislikes
  • The time chosen by me for getting the treatment done was not the best one. December to May was quite hectic. Lots of meetings and I had to work on weekends too. I had very hard time trying to keep up with my hair spa appointments.
  • Shampoo which was suggested to me was out of stock for most of the time. At one point, i had to order three bottles from Nykaa as none of the websites were stocking it up.
  • I started suffering from hair breakage and loss since April. My hair got tangled more frequently and my efforts to untangle them resulted in hair breakage.  After June, I started oiling my hair and now the hair fall is slowly getting normal.
  • I also had my exams in June, I did not take hair spa properly and there was a dearth of shampoo so, I cannot point out the cause of hair fall. The hair fall is not noticeable. But yes I did suffer abnormal hair fall.

So, going by my experience, I would suggest a chemical hair treatment to you,

* If you have money to devote for your hair care. It is not like a onetime MAC haul. It is an every month commitment involving, in my case Rs. 4000/- for the hair spa and products.

* If you have the time to devote to your hair care. Again, it is not a onetime thing but every month you need to spend at least 2 hours at the salon to get your hair spa done. This was the biggest problem in my case. I cancelled appointments thrice before getting a spa done in March. It got so frustrating and difficult.

* If you have thick and healthy hair to withstand hair loss and thinning (if any).

* If you don’t mind letting your hair loose all the time. I am a South Indian. During some pooja or functions, my mum asks me to braid my hair. I found it extremely difficult to braid my hair. The braid keeps coming off and did not look good.

* If you are 100% sure that you won’t be missing your wavy/curly hair. I started missing my wavy hair. It used to look so lush and I was able to do any kind of hair styles with it. But now, I am not able to curl my hair as the curl does not stay put. L

Some tips:
  • Do lot of research before finalizing the salon. A very reputed salon will have a lousy branch and vice-versa.
  • Researching does not mean listening to the various sob stories about hair loss and part of hair falling off on the very same day. Everyone's hair is different. So what happened to them need not happen to you. It is okay to ask about experiences but never come to a conclusion before talking to a qualified stylist or the person you trust. If you are unsure, don't do it.
  • Let the stylist know about your hair owes and explain what exactly you want even if it sounds dumb. After all it is your hair.
  • If you have thin dry hair, don't try any such treatments. I am sure the stylist will say the same. Your hair needs considerable health to withstand the chemicals.
  • Go prepared, take a story book, water bottle and some chocolates. Trust me, it takes more time that the Femina’s can fill. Don't keep any other appointments on that day.
  • The salon shampoos are quite hard to find. So if they are in stock, better stock it up.
  • If you live in a hot and humid place like Chennai, better take up the treatment on cooler months so that you will not feel the need to dunk your head in water all the time. They suggest washing hair once in 3 or more days.
  • With a straight smooth hair, you cannot do some hair dos like you used to. So keep that in mind.
  • Follow what the stylist says. Take care of your overall health and use a nourishing hair mask every week.

Final words:I will not be taking up any more chemical hair treatments. But, I don’t regret doing it. I have had my share of flaunting poker straight smooth hair. After all, we all have one life. Do what you want to but exercise due caution. J

Hope you found this post useful. Do share your hair experiments in the comments below. I would love to read them.

Hello friends,

Today I am going to review a contour pencil from kryolan. As the name suggests, it is not a kohl pencil or eyeliner. It is used for contouring the eyes and I personally prefer it to tight line my eyes or when I am looking for a smudged smokey eye look.

Kryolan Contour Pencil in Shade 971
Kryolan Contour Pencil in Shade 971
About:

Kryolan Contour Pencil is a soft textured pencil for eye and lip contouring. Its special formulation makes this pencil very durable and provides a strong color intensity. For a softer texture warm the tip of the pencil prior to application.

REVIEW

It is priced at Rs. 250/- and it comes in a general pencil form. Though many prefer twist-ups I personally like sharpenable ones especially when it comes to contouring.

Packing is pretty basic. Silver colored pencil with color coded end.

Kryolan Contour Pencil in Shade 971
Kryolan Contour Pencil in Shade 971
I got it in black and it works amazingly well. It is well pigmented, soft, creamy enough to withstand the smudging and evenly smokes out.

It is not water-proof or smudge-proof. So though it lines wonderfully, you may not want to use it as a conventional kohl or eyeliner.

It also works wonderfully as a base for dark eyeshadows too.

What I like in Kryolan Contour pencil:
  1. Nice creamy texture.
  2. Works wonderfully for tight lining.
  3. Decent pigmentation even when smudged.
  4. Love it as a base for my matte black eyeshadow
  5. Affordable.
  6. Sharpen-able pencil form.
  7. Does not irritate my eyes

What I hate in Kryolan contour pencil:
  1. Not smudge-proof or water proof.
  2. Average staying power when used as a kohl.

I love Bourjois products for their quality. I have tried couple of their products like eyeliners, foundation, primer and powders. They have hardly failed me. Driven by the confidence, I ordered two shades of their intense extrait eye shadows. Today I will be reviewing the shade 02.

The pictures of the pot were taken in sunlight so kindly excuse. The swatches and EOTD depict the color better.

Review:

It looked so cute. The pot looked so tiny and sturdy. It is priced atINR. 575/- for L one gram.

The shade 02 is a subdued golden beige color. It looks gorgeous as an overall lid color and even gorgeous as a corner highlighter when used along with darker shades. It is shimmery but not chunky or glittery.

Bourjois Paris Intense Extrait eyeshadow in 02

It can be used in wet and dry form.

When used in dry form, it has fallout's. The pigment is fine but the fall out is not extreme or annoying. The pigmentation is pretty decent for a shade like this even in dry form. It gets immensely intensified when used wet. I prefer using it dry as I like the subtle look of it.

Staying power is not amazing if used dry and without a base. But on a base, it stays put for a decent amount of time. I wore it for 5 hours before wiping it off. I did not use it wet for the reason already mentioned. I don’t think 16 hr staying power can be achieved if used dry.

The texture of the eye shadows is very good and it is easy to work with.

Bourjois Paris Intense Extrait eyeshadow in 02 swatch

Let me stop here and quickly list down the pro’s and con’s before moving on to my EOTD!

What I Like:
  1. Cute packing. Comes with a tiny mirror.
  2. Gorgeous color.
  3. Good pigmentation especially for a golden beige shade.
  4. Can be used both wet and dry.
  5. Easy to apply and blend.
  6. Decent staying power.
  7. It is hypoallergenic, parabens- and fragrance-free.
  8. Safe for contact lens wearers.

What I Hate:
  1. INR. 575/- for 1 gram??
  2. Fall outs. Cannot be complained given the shade and formula.
  3. No brush or applicator included.

On my eyes (used dry)

It is very good. No doubt about that. But I am not sure about spending INR. 575/- on a single eyeshadow.

I may buy one more shade from this range. The green colored one in shade no. 11.

Have your tried Bourjois eyeshadows? If so let me know in the comments about how you like them.

Maybelline New York Hyper Sharp Liner - Review

I am feeling really dull these days. I feel like wearing an invisible cloak for a few days. But as some wise men said, this too shall pass. L To cheer myself up I have placed an order with the Forever 21’s newly launched online site and with jabong (few NYX eyeshadows and liners). Let me see if they do their job well in lifting my spirits.

Now on to today’s post. I wanted a nice felt tip liner for lining my eyes. I have tried couple of them before from various brands and they never caught my fancy well enough to keep me repurchasing. When I saw this liner from Maybelline, I was like “why not” and picked it up.

Maybelline New York Hyper Sharp Liner
Maybelline New York Hyper Sharp Liner

It comes in a functional pen type packing with a cheap looking golden cap. It looks too yellow to look classy or pretty.  Any way, it serves its purpose and fits tight.

The thing I loved about this pen is its applicator. It is more brush like but stiffer. Even after two-three weeks of regular use, the applicator has not lost its shape in anyway and remains as good as new unlike the conventional felt tip ones which tends to lose its shape over time.

Maybelline New York Hyper Sharp Liner
Maybelline New York Hyper Sharp Liner - Applicator
They are flexible enough to draw a flick without much discomfort and stiff enough to get a seamless line.

I do not have problem using liquid liners but for a beginner I am sure this one will be very comfortable to use.

Maybelline New York Hyper Sharp Liner
Maybelline New York Hyper Sharp Liner - Applicator
The pigmentation is also very good. No watery lines. It imparts rich glossy black color even in a single swipe. However in order to perfect the line drawn, I prefer to go over the flick once more.

Staying power is quite impressive. It stays put all day long. It is water resistant and smudge-proof. Removal is not a pain either as it comes off easily when removed with coconut oil.

It is priced at Rs. 425/- and I paid Rs. 375/- and got it from an online store. I’d say this eyeliner is really unique and extremely comfortable.

Grab one with your eyes closed.

Real Techniques Your Eyes enhanced Starter Kit Review

Hi,

Today I will be reviewing the Real Techniques eye starter set for you all. I got it as my birthday present in the month of March 2014. Since then I have been using it on a regular basis. We all know how real techniques is cruelty free so i am not going to mention about the material and stuffs. You can read all about it in their website.

It comes along with a travel case (with space for keeping few more brushes) and I threw the outer cover long back.

Real Techniques Your Eyes enhanced Starter Kit Review

The set contains the following five brushes:

Base Shadow Brush
Deluxe Crease Brush
Accent Brush
Pixel Point Eyeliner Brush and
Brow Brush

This review will be from a beginner perspective.

BASE SHADOW BRUSH:

Real Techniques base shadow brush

It picks and applies eye shadows very well and at times I even use to mildly blend it in especially when I am using a neutral eyeshadow. It packs eye shadows very well despite its fairly fluffy appearance.  Due to its shape, I find it easy to apply eyeshadows on the inner corner.

DELUXE CREASE BRUSH:

Real Techniques Deluxe crease brush

Real Techniques deluxe crease brush

This is very soft, fluffy and well packed. It Blends eye shadows effortlessly and imparts a very nice finish. But unfortunately it is too big for my eyes. May be I am using it all wrong. I am yet to get used to it. I use it occasionally to blend eyeshadows but, it fails as a crease brush.

ACCENT BRUSH:

Real Techniques accent brush

I love this brush. It does a great job in applying eyeshadows precisely on my lower lash line and for applying highlighters on the inner corners. I also love to use this brush when I want a diffused messy kohled eyes look. It is small compared to the other brushes in this kit.

FINE LINER BRUSH:

Real Techniques pixel point eyeliner brush

At the first sight of this brush, I was like “wow its too thick and big for applying eyeliners” but after using it few times, I can say that it works wonderfully for lining the upper lash line. I use it along with gel liners and cream eyeshadows. Due to the shape of the brush it does a great job in applying it evenly on my upper lash line.

As i mentioned earlier, i threw away the case and relied on e-commerce sites for the exact names of the brushes. I came to know that pixel point eyeliner brush (which was supposedly thicker than this one) has been replaced by a comparatively thinner fine liner brush

BROW BRUSH:

Real Techniques brow brush

Real Techniques brow brush

It is the most frequently used brush in the entire kit. I use it to smudge the eye brow pencil throughout my brows. Works well. Picks brow powers really well and does a great job. It is quite thick so you cannot double it for lining the lower lashline. I prefer thin and smaller angular brush for that.

After my first use, I was quite disappointed that they were nothing magically but for being soft against my skin. I half expected them to magically transform my messy eye shadows into perfectly done ones.  After I started fine-tuning my application skills I can say that I am quite happy with my purchase.

Real Techniques Your Eyes enhanced Starter Kit Review

The brushes are of good quality and I did not face any shedding issues.

Overall a decent and thoughtfully made brush set. It is priced at around $18 but it was purchased during offer from amazon.

I am eyeing the expert face brush now. Have you tried any Real Techniques Brushes?? If so do share your opinion with me.

Street Wear Ultra Moist Lipstick in Fire Your Ex - Review, Swatch and LOTD

Hiya,

After what seems to be an eternity I picked up couple of street wear lipsticks and lip glosses – Courtesy, their newly revamped collection and all new packing.

Street Wear Color Rich Ultra Moist Lipstick in Fire Your Ex

I have always loved the streetwear range for their price tag and decent product range. When I was in college I used to horde their color rich lipsticks.

Today I will be reviewing a gorgeous watermelon red called “fire your ex” from their ultra moist lipstick range.

Street Wear Color Rich Ultra Moist Lipstick
These lipsticks come in a black bullet with a transparent plastic cap that has an image of flirty looking girl printed on it. I am not satisfied with the way the cap fits. Though i have carried it in my bag twice without any accidents, i always have the feeling that the cap might crack or come off.

The lipsticks are priced at an affordable Rs. 180/-.

Fire your ex is a watermelon red with hint of orange in it. Though it looks pretty fiery on the bullet, when swatched, it sheers out a bit and is wearable even for me (I run away from loud lipsticks). It is an extremely flattering color for medium skin tones.

It has a sheer semi-matte finish. On application it looks pretty glossy but settles to a healthy looking finish. It does not dry out my lips. In fact it feels pretty moisturizing and I feel that it does not sit properly on a lip balm.

Pigmentation is not great. One swipe imparts 75% coverage. Due to the texture, it does not look good if it is swiped more than two-three times. A guess good lip liner will fix that.

The lipstick stays for 3-4 hours on my lips and leaves a gorgeous tint behind. It needs reapplication after a meal and due to its texture, transfers a lot. I prefer to blot it down to reduce its transferability.

The lipstick has a faint yummy vanilla fragrance. For the price I paid, I do not have much to complain.

This is how the bullet looks.

FabIndia Lemon Grass Facial Spray - Review

Hello friends,

I picked up this facial spray from FabIndia on a hot summer afternoon. It looked soothing and smelled wonderful.

FabIndia Lemon Grass Facial Spray

It comes in a weightless plastic bottle with a spray dispenser. I love to keep such facial mists in my handbag and use them when I am out and about on a sunny day. In Chennai, there is no dearth of sunny days. So facial mists are a must have for me.

About:

FabIndia Lemon Grass Facial Spray

FabIndia Lemon Grass Facial Spray

Review:

Lemongrass oil is used in aroma therapy. It is said to have skin firming and astringent properties and it is said to be anti-bacterial.

This facial mist is calm and soothing against my skin. It smells wonderful. It does not dry out or irritate my skin like a typical astringent. I have dry skin that is prone to irritation.

FabIndia Lemon Grass Facial Spray

The product is very mild and it does not prove effective in removing the remnant cleanser and dirt like how a typical toner does. I don’t find this as a con because most of the effective toners leave my skin dry.

I did not get any firming sensation like how i experienced with other toners which proves that this product is nothing beyond a skin refresher.

I use it after washing my face, to blend out the foundation, to wet my buffing/blending brush to blend the base makeup and I also keep it in my bag to use as a refreshing spray.

It works well and does not make my face sticky or oily. It keeps my skin looking refreshed and smooth.

I don’t think this product will prove to be beneficial to oily skinned ladies. It is a decent product for refreshing your skin without being sticky and for blending makeup.

I am already in my second bottle and for me, it is a great change from the regular rose water.

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Brick-O-la - Review, Swatch and LOTD

I love Colorbar Velvet matte lipsticks. I love them for their price, staying power and decent shade selection. I have couple of lipsticks from them and today I am going to review the shade Brick-O-La.

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Brick-O-la

It comes in a silver bullet with a transparent cap. The cap feels feeble though I have not faced any accidents. If you intend to carry it in your handbag, always keep it in a pouch. Better be safe than sorry right?

I got it from jabong for Rs. 275/- for 4.2 g.

Brick-O-la looks brick colored in the bullet but when swatched, it leans more towards deep rose.

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Brick-O-la

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Brick-O-la

It is a gorgeous color and before picking up this shade from jabong (I was given a voucher as the eyeshadow I received came damaged) I was forced to rely on reviews and swatches online.

When I tried it on, unfortunately this shade was too loud for my taste. Nevertheless, it is a gorgeous color that will go very well with ethnic outfits.

This color tends to enhance my yellow undertones. In my opinion, on someone who is dusky-medium it will look ravishing. On any one lighter than that, it is a matter of personal choice.

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Brick-O-la

The texture of the lipstick is creamy and goes on without any trouble. It feels creamier than couple of shades I tried from this velvet matte range.

It stays for about 5 hours on my lips which is quite impressive and leaves a stubborn pink stain. This lipstick survives snacks and drinks and transfers moderately.

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Brick-O-la

Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Brick-O-la

Apart from this staining factor, I don’t have any problems with velvet mattes in general. But with this one, somehow the color did not work for me to my satisfaction.

Recommended! Despite the fact that Colorbar keeps increasing its prices, even at Rs. 299/- (which i believe is the current MRP) I guess these lipsticks are worth it. There are lots of gorgeous shades to suit everyone’s tastes.

Hello folks!

I have been addicted to lipsticks for a long time. My experiments with lip colors started with the budget friendly brands and slowly shifted to MAC. These days I am in search for that perfect nude lipstick for my skin tone. I found that L’oreal Color Riche lipstick in the shade Nature’s Blush is a nude lipstick that I quite liked for my skin tone. Once it got used up, I wanted to try another brand. It comes in a navy blue paper carton with silver letters on it. The lipstick holder comes with a square shaped cross section. It looks longer than the usual lipstick holders. What I don’t like about this range is they don’t name the shades, only  numbers are there to identify the shades. Come on, I wouldn’t like it if someone calls me a number rather than my name. I think it is the same with everyone. The holder looks very classy with navy blue color and the chamber emblem is printed on the top of it.

Chambor Rouge Plump Lipstick 772 shade name

My take on the lipstick:

As I told, I am in love with this shade. It is a peachy brown shade which goes n*de/neutral on my lips. It is an everyday shade on my NC42 skin tone. The pigmentation is really good. It is not a matte shade, but a creamy one which turns opaque on my pigmented lips. The lipstick is very creamy and glides smoothly on my dry lips. It doesn't accentuate the fine lines on my lips or dry them out. Also it doesn't settle into the fine lines. But it transfers a lot though it won’t bleed from my lips. It stays for 3-4 hours if I don’t have any meals in between. It can survive snacks and drinks to some extent. One thing that bothers me is that, since it is too creamy it melts in hot summer and stands a chance for breaking inside the holder.
This lipstick does not have any strong fragrance.

Chambor Rouge Plump Lipstick 772

The good part is that it is a shade which I can team with a neutral makeup look as well as with heavy eye makeup too. It is an ideal office wear shade for fair – medium skin tones. I think for darker skin tones it may not be visible.  About the plumping part, I cannot guarantee. What is that 25% plumping claim? How can anyone know whether it is true? I didn’t find any change in my lips after applying this lipstick. The SPF part is another good factor of this lipstick since we need it very badly for the hot Indian summers.

Swatch:

So now the pros and cons listed

The good:
  1. Very creamy and glides smoothly on even dry lips
  2. Good pigmentation
  3. Doesn't settle into fine lines
  4. Ideal office wear or for a neutral lips look
  5. Doesn't fade uneven
  6. Contains sun protection - SPF 15
  7. Easily available in most departmental stores across the country
  8. Classy and attractive packing
  9. Suits most of the Indian skin tones
  10. Decent wear time
  11. No strong fragrance

The not so good part:
  1. Transfers
  2. May melt in summer
  3. I think the price is high for the quantity

I hope you liked my review of Chambor Rouge Plump lipstick 772. Please let me know what you think about my post through your lovely comments.

Burst of Happyness What a Girl Wants - Hand Made Facial Cleanser Review

Burst of Happyness What a Girl Wants facial cleanser

I love natural, preservative free products for my face and summers made my skin a little sticky in the T-Zone. Today, I am back with a Burst of Happyness cleanser designed for combination skin. You might have read how I was smitten by the face cleanser I got from them (if not, do read it here).

What a girl wants is a handmade clay based cleanser for oily and combination skin.

Price: INR. 380/- for 100 g.

It is packed in a similar white colored plastic tub packing. I don’t have any problems with the packing because, I don’t share my skin care products and I use a wooden ice-cream spoon to pick up the product.

Burst of Happyness What a Girl Wants facial cleanser

I am a sucker for those exotic, soothing fragrances like tea-tree, lavender etc. This one smells predominantly of tea-tree oil and lavender. It smells luxurious and makes me feel as if I am in the middle of an herbal spa.

The ingredients are rhassoul clay, veg. glycerine, jojoba oil, rose petals, essential oils of lavender and tea tree.

Rhassoul clay is a gentle cleansing agent used in lots of luxurious spa therapies across the world. It is said to be used by ancient Egyptians as a cleanser for hair and skin. It is known for improving the texture of skin. It also helps to combat dryness. It also aids in skin regeneration. It is said to be used for the past 2000 years. WOW!

It also comes in a powder/chunk form and needs to be diluted with water before use. When I diluted this one, I found it little harder to work with. But once I started scrubbing it against my skin, it started spreading evenly without falling out in chunks.

Burst of Happyness What a Girl Wants facial cleanser

It was not harsh and did not irritate my skin. I can now make a happy declaration that this is the first product with tea-tree oil that did not irritate my skin. It felt gentle yet proved effective in giving me a squeaky clean feel.

My skin felt refreshed, soft and looked very bright. I did not get any heavy acne breakouts. As my skin was already in a good shape, I did not have any active acne to tell about how it helped me in clearing it. But it did help me in keeping my pores clear and my whiteheads formation was not in much vigor as it used to be which speaks volumes about its cleansing properties.

Another thing worth mentioning is, this 100gm pack lasts for a month easily which makes it pocket-friendly to a great extent.

Burst of happiness seems to be a brand that values opinion of its customers. Last time, I had written that it would prove highly beneficial if the customer was sent an email informing the dispatch of the order. This time, I received an email about the dispatch (along with the tracking number) and my products arrived in just 3 day’s time.

I am an extremely sensitive person. I find it disappointing and disrespectful when owners show attitude by not telling the date by which the order will be ready and responding vaguely to queries put up by people who had paid for the order.

I had no such problems with Burst of Happyness. The owner happens to be someone who knows how to maintain a relationship with her customers which for me is a biiiiiiiig thing.

Burst of Happyness What a Girl Wants facial cleanser

Okay. Let me now jump to what I love and hate about What a Girl Wants:

What I Love:
  1. Vegan and Natural.
  2. Soothing and exotic fragrance.
  3. Cleanses my skin well without drying it out.
  4. Very good ingredients.
  5. Easy to use.
  6. Doubles up as a mild every-day scrub
  7. Washes off easily and does not leave any residue behind.
  8. Justifies the price paid.
  9. Did not irritate my acne-prone skin.
  10. Customer-friendly merchant.
  11. Ships worldwide promptly.
  12. They send generous samples with  orders.

What I hate:
  1. I have nothing to hate personally but I do think people with extremely oily skin might need something more.

Highly recommended. My friend had bought their products and she just cannot stop from praising them. Do give it a try.

Lots of things going on in my life and here I am writing a lipstick review. At times, doing something as if there is nothing amiss helps a lot in bringing us back to normalcy.

Faces Cosmetics Ultimate Pro long wear matte lipstick in 05 Peach Blush

Today I bring you my current favorite MLBB lipstick from the Faces Cosmetics Ultimate Pro long wear range. It is called Peach Blush 05.

It comes in a thin matte black bullet. Though the packing is travel friendly, i would have preferred a thicker packing. The lipstick feels fragile as if it will uproot any moment.

I received this one and a gorgeous pink shade named as flirty pink as gift.

Peach blush is a pretty brownish peach color. It has more brown than peach in it. It looks extremely flattering on medium skin tones. On me, it is a gorgeous MLBB shade.

Faces Cosmetics Ultimate Pro long wear matte lipstick in 05 Peach Blush

The texture of these lipsticks is creamy and little waxy. First swipe seems to go on little harder and rubbery. The lipstick warms up and the next swipe is more comfortable.

Pigmentation is not great. This shade required two-three swipes to reach 100% opacity. It sets to a pure matte finish.

Being matte, it obviously accentuates dryness and fine lines. Lip balm is a must.

Faces Cosmetics Ultimate Pro long wear matte lipstick in 05 Peach Blush

Staying power is not that great. On me, it stayed for about 4 hours with mild snacking in between. It does not survive a full blown meal and starts fading from the inner corners.

I have tried Inglot matte lipsticks earlier and found them to be uncomfortably rubbery on my lips. This one is quite comfortable to sport and apart from emphasizing dryness I don’t see any reason to not pick couple of shades from this range.

I am a fan of matte lipsticks for office-wear and I love this one. It is just a matter of choice. I have few friends who dread anything with matte finish. If you love matte lipsticks do check this out.

MAC Prolong Wear Lip Crème Love Forever Review and Swatch

It is a long story, how I got hold of this lipstick. I had seen the reviews of this lipstick when I was hunting for a perfect pink lipstick and fell in love with the color. I called the MAC stores in the city to find out it was unavailable. Only the third store which I called had it in stock. The MUA told that only one piece is available so I had to rush. The next day was a holiday so I didn't waste my time and landed at the store.  The MUA who attended my call previous day was not there so his colleague started searching for that one last piece which was in stock. Surprisingly, despite the product being so much in demand and not available in stock most of the times, the MAC MUA's were not so familiar about it. This guy went on searching and finally gave up telling probably the last piece was also sold out. Then suddenly the MUA who attended my call entered the store and found the piece that was reserved for me. When I asked for a tester, he said that they don’t have tester and I had to either buy the fresh piece or forget about it. I decided to take the plunge and bought it. :D

MAC Prolong Wear Lip Crème Love Forever
MAC Claims:

Lightweight texture, creamy finish and comfortable long wear combine in this has-it-all pro-class lip color. Slick in use, applies without need of a top coat- and still lasts up to 12 hours. Won't feather or transfer, and the color stays true. Helps lips stay soft and hydrated.

According to MAC, the color of Love Forever is a bright blue pink

The packing:

It comes in a long cylindrical holder unlike the usual MAC lipsticks. But the holder is same classy black colored one with silver lettering. The shade name is printed at the bottom of the holder. The lipstick doesn't have that pointed bullet shape as that of the usual MAC lipsticks. This has a round shaped flat cross section. But like all MAC lipsticks, this one also has that vanilla fragrance which is really pleasant to the nose.

MAC Prolong Wear Lip Crème Love Forever
Price:Rs. 1500 for 3.6 g.

My take on the product:

Love Forever is a bright fuchsia pink which will suit almost all skin tones. It is very creamy and highly pigmented. It turns opaque in a single swipe and camouflages pigmentation on lips. Due to its long staying power and matte texture, it is a bit drying after a couple of hours. So, moisturized healthy lips are a must. Despite the texture, it doesn't settle into the fine lines or accentuates the lines on lips.

MAC Prolong Wear Lip Crème Love Forever swatches and review
MAC Prolong Wear Lip Crème Love Forever
This is one lipstick that stays put until you remove it. Even while removing you need to be really careful since it has a tendency to stain the area around the lips. This one doesn't fade away even after few snacks and full meals during the wear-time. It does transfer to some extent but the color doesn't wear off. It fades a little after full meals and leaves a stain on the lips. The color never goes off completely. You need a good makeup remover to remove the stain from your lips. It doesn't melt or bleed even in the hottest weather.

The pros:
  1. Intensely pigmented
  2. No irritating fragrance
  3. Shade compliments all skin tones
  4. Long wear time
  5. Doesn't bleed or melt
  6. Doesn't feather or settle into fine lines
  7. Applies evenly without tugging or pulling
  8. Opaque enough to camouflage pigmentation on the lips
  9. Withstands all meals and drinks

The Cons:
  1. Not easily available even in cities with MAC stores.
  2. Price is higher.
  3. Removing is a bit difficult.

Lakme Nine to five Matte Lip color in Scarlet Drill - Review

I am fond of neutral and subtle lip colors. When Lakme launched this new range of lip colors suited especially for office going ladies, I had to check them. I went to buy a red lipstick and this is my first purchase from Lakme nine to five office stylist range.

Lakme Nine to five Matte Lip color in Scarlet Drill

Lakme Claims:

Lakmé Nine to Five brings you a range of 15 shades that sit on your lips all day long. Enriched with Vitamin E; it conditions your lips & softens them with wheat germ oil. So, perk those soft, smooth lips with a touch of matte..

The packing:

It comes in a rose gold packaging which is very fragile. Before using it even once, I dropped this lipstick accidentally and the holder got a dent on it. So you need to be really careful while handling them. It has a glossy body with white letters printed on the holder. The shade name is printed on the bottom of the holder. Many times I faced trouble that this holder doesn't close properly and I have to go on searching for the cap to put it back in place. Except that it looks attractive.

Lakme Nine to five Matte Lip color in Scarlet Drill

Lakme Nine to five Matte Lip color in Scarlet Drill

Price: Rs. 400 for 3.6 gm.

My take on the product:

According to me, Scarlet Drill is a shade among this range which has not got the love it deserves. This is brownish red color that will suit all Indian skin tones nicely. It is a work appropriate shade and looks good with almost all shades of outfits. You can wear it with both neutral and heavy eye makeup looks. It is a wonderful every day color which I am in love with.

Lakme Nine to five Matte Lip color in Scarlet Drill

It is highly pigmented and is matte in finish. It covers the pigmentation on the lips in a single swipe. I don’t like the weird smell it has though it goes away within a few minutes of application. It is really creamy and applies evenly. However, it is a bit drying once it sets. So it is not advisable to use it directly on dry chapped lips without moisturizing it first.

It transfers and wears off after a full meal. The average staying power is 4 hours without any full meals in between. So you need to reapply it once you have meals. It can withstand light snacks and a couple of drinks. I think this is really a wonderful shade and it suits me perfectly. It doesn't settle into fine lines but if your lips are really dry it may accentuate the fine lines. If I pick up top 5 lipsticks in my collection, I am sure to include this one for its shade in the list.

The good:

  1. Beautiful color, especially for office wear
  2. Creamy and applies without much effort
  3. Very pigmented
  4. Opaque in one swipe
  5. Decent wear time
  6. Doesn't settle into fine lines
  7. Easily available
  8. Very much affordable
  9. Doesn't bleed or melt
The bad:

  1. Has a weird smell though it doesn't stay for long time
  2. May dry out the lips

Faces Cosmetics Singles Eye shadow in FES00252 (Light Khaki Brown) Review

$

I went to faces counter at EA to check out couple of lipsticks and eye shadows. Much to my delight they had lots of everyday matte shades. Guess what?? I ended up buying 5 eye shadows and 2 lipsticks. I got three matte shades and two shimmery shades. All the shades I purchased are wearable and well pigmented.

Today I will be reviewing a gorgeous matte khaki brown color. It is extremely wearable and for my skin tone, it is a beautiful n*de shade. It is so great for those MEBB (My Eyes But Better :D ) looks. I conceal my eyes and pat this shade all over the lids and with a coat of mascara, my eyes look so pretty in a “no makeup” way.

Faces cosmetics singles eyeshadow in Khaki Brown FES00252

I don’t know why, but I am in this phase where we end up breaking anything and everything. I accidentally broke my half-used Bourjois primer bottle; my brand new NYX eyeshadow which I ordered online came all broken and bruised. To top it all, I dropped this eyeshadow and broke it too. *sniff* *sniff*
Packing: It comes in a (annoyingly) sturdy plastic compact case. The lid is soooooooo tight that i dropped the eyeshadow in an attempt to open it. It comes sealed in a thin plastic wrap.

Faces cosmetics singles eyeshadow in Khaki Brown FES00252
Color: As I had mentioned above, it is a gorgeous light khaki brown eyeshadow. It looks extremely flattering for those simple clean winged eyeliner looks. This color is close to my heart and I am using it almost every day to work.

Pigmentation: This is what surprised me the most. The pigmentation is very good. Considering the color, I expected it to be chalky and sheer. But it feels rich and pigmented.

Texture: The texture of the eyeshadow is finely milled, silky and soft. It breaks at the slightest disturbance and is a pleasure to use. The eyeshadow blends like a dream and has no fallouts.

It is slightly darker than my skin tone. I use it to blend out a black liner for those quick smokey eye looks and to simply create a clear, well concealed lid so that my winged liner shows through in all its glory.

Faces cosmetics singles eyeshadow in Khaki Brown FES00252

The eyeshadow is not chalky at all.

Staying power: On its own, it stays put for about 3-4 hours beyond which it fades to nothing. It does not melt or settle into the lines. But almost all eye shadows need a primer to keep it in place. When used along with my Kryolan primer, it stays put till I remove it.

The thing about Faces cosmetics single eye shadows is you cannot judge the quality by trying a single shade. It varies a lot. I have around 10 eyeshadow singles from them and they all are of decent quality. You must swatch the shades before you buy.

As I have quite a lot of tiny veins on my eyelids (which people hardly notice), such shades are a must have especially when I am going for those only mascaras or winged liner looks.

As the shade is close to my skin tone, this is the best swatch i can come up with. :)

What I Like:

  1. Gorgeous matte brown shade.
  2. Good quality and texture.
  3. Good pigmentation.
  4. Decent staying power.
  5. Pocket friendly.
  6. Easily available.
What I Hate:

  1. Due to their texture, these eye shadows are very fragile.
  2. They don't have names. Only product codes and I hate it.
Indian Beauty Maniac’s Rating4.5/5

Did I mention that I got it at INR. 100/- ?? Yup! I got 5 eye shadows at just INR.500/-. Isn’t that a steal? Even at their full price, I personally feel that this particular eyeshadow is worth even the full price. We all need that perfect n*de brown eyeshadow right?

Do keep an eye for offers in your local Faces Cosmetics counter. It is a steal.

Have you tried these eye shadows before?

Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm Sultry Review & Dupe Alert!!

I am after pink lipsticks these days. I think pink is the most versatile color in makeup. N8de pink, neutral pink, dusty pink, coral pink, blue based pink, cool pink, warm pink and what not. I was looking for a dusty rose/pink shade and after seeing so many reviews I decided to try the Revlon Matte Balm Sultry.

Revlon says:

Velvety Matte Look. Moisture Rich Balm. A Matte finish that’s beyond plush. Balm that’s beyond comforting. Our Triple Butter Complex of Shea, Coconut and Mango butters nourishes lips. In 10 collectible, crave-able colors.

Packing:

It comes as a chubby crayon which looks really attractive. The holder has the same as the shade itself and it is easily identifiable from a stash. The crayon need not be sharpened which is another good point that avoids product wastage. It comes in a twist up form. The shade names are written on the bottom of the holder.

Price: Rs. 800 for 2.7 g

My take on the Revlon Color Burst Matte Balm Sultry:

The shade is one to die for! It is a dusty rose/plum color that compliments all skin tones. I cannot say whether it is actually Plum or Rose. I feel it is more of a plum. It has a strong Mint flavor which is supposed to be plumping up the lips. It gives a cooling effect when you apply it on the lips. The fragrance fades away quickly.

Though it is semi-matte in texture, it glides smoothly giving an opaque finish within one swipe. The shape of the bullet gives ease of application. The pigmentation is awesome and it can hide any pigmentation on the lips easily. It doesn't dry out the lips but for extremely dry lips, it is better to use a lip balm before applying this. Though the name is Balm it is actually more like a lip color. I cannot say that it particularly moisturize the lips.

It has good staying power and stays put for 4-5 hours without any heavy meals in between. It transfers slightly and fades evenly with small snacks and drinks but there is no feathering or settling into fine lines. It is really comfortable on the lips.

Dupe Alert!!I feel this shade resembles the MAC lipstick Craving very closely though Craving is of amplified creme finish. The shades are really close.

So now the pros of Revlon Color Burst Matte Balm Sultry:
  1. Very creamy and glides effortlessly
  2. Insanely pigmented
  3. Opaque coverage enough to camouflage any pigmentation on the lips
  4. Slight plumping effect
  5. Not drying on the lips
  6. No feathering or settling into fine lines
  7. Doesn't bleed or melt
  8. Easy twist up packing, no product wastage
  9. Easily available
  10. Easily identifiable from the stash

Now the cons:
  1. I cannot think of a serious con with this product. However, I am not very fond of mint flavor.

MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection Extra Dimension Eyeshadow Lorelei Review, Swatch and EOTD

Recently Raji and I had decided to have a girl’s day out in Phoenix Market City, Chennai. Our first destination was of course the MAC store. I had a badly performing eyeshadow Oomph, from the Mickey Contractor collection which I wanted to show to the MUA and ask for her suggestions about how to make it work. I also wanted a neutral daily wear eye shadow. I had a few shades like All that Glitters, Wood winked and Soba in mind. First I saw Wood Winked but I was not so sure about buying it since it was a bit shimmery than my expectation. Then the MUA showed us a new eyeshadow from the latest limited edition collection i.e., the Alluring Aquatic Collection – Lorelei. She applied wood winked on my left eye and Lorelei on the right side and asked me to decide. Both Raji and I found Lorelei to be better suited for every day makeup and I instantly picked it up.

MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection Extra Dimension Eyeshadow Lorelei
MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection Extra Dimension Eye shadow in Lorelei
What MAC says about Alluring Aquatic Collection:

Sirens of the deep inspire an aquascape of shades, as waves of tarnished olive, seafoam and darkened plum surrender to water’s enticing spirit. Sultry eyes take on a subtle radiance, while luminous Extra Dimension Blush washes over cheeks, creating a goddess glow. Under the sea, nails glisten in aquatic chrome and metallic Nail Lacquer, as Lipstick, Lipglass and Lip Pencil dive deep into colour. Limited-edition teal packaging, dramatically accented with sheer water droplets.

Packing:

The eyeshadow comes in a beautiful metallic teal blue packing. The carton as well as the eyeshadow pan is in the same shade. It is a refreshing change from the usual black packing. It looks as if there are water drops on the cover and the pan. It looks so beautiful that I have preserved the carton also this time. The pan has a transparent lid and the shade is visible without having to open the pan. I love everything about the packing.

What I think about MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection Extra Dimension Eye shadow Lorelei:

MAC Lorelei
MAC Alluring Aquatic Collection Extra Dimension Eye shadow in Lorelei
Lorelei is a beautiful golden beige eyeshadow with a velvety finish. It can be used as an overall lid color as well as a highlighter shade. The pigmentation is good and I did not notice any fall outs. I use it all over my eyelids and it does not look too glittery. It does not scream for attention but makes my eyes look bright and lively.

It does not go patchy or uneven while applying. It applies smoothly and blends like dream. I did find a bit of creasing towards the end of the day but nothing that a good eye primer cannot take care of. It stays put for a long time. I wear it for almost 8-9 hours a day and I still can see the eyeshadow on my lids by the end of the day.

It is indeed a gorgeous color suited for every day. It is subtle yet striking. Loved reading your review as always Nisha. Eager to see more. :)

Michael Todd True Organics Milk + Honey Firming Mask - First Impressions

If you are following me on Instagram, you might have known that I got this  face pack few weeks ago and honestly I cannot stop raving it. I mean, I just can’t wait anymore to share about it to you all. So I decided to share my initial thoughts about this product.

Michael Todd True Organics Milk + Honey Firming Mask
Michael Todd True Organics Milk + Honey Firming Mask
The product I am talking (raving) about is from Michael Todd True Organics Milk + Honey Firming Mask. It is a moisturizing and nourishing mask made for normal to oily skin.

I have combination skin which started looking uncomfortably shiny and dull these days. This face pack is designed for 2-3 uses per week. I have used it four times and it is very good.

It makes my skin look refreshed and above all, it is the only face pack that did not dry out my skin despite me using it thrice a week. How cool is that? It makes my skin look visibly brighter and healthy. It did not break out my acne-prone skin and the active acne which I had dried out sooner than usual but I am not sure if it is because of this face pack.

Their packing and shipping also requires a special mention. I received my face pack within 10 days of dispatch. My face pack came well packed (double layered packing) and I did not pay any customs duty on it. The face pack has a pump dispenser which adds to the cool factor.

Await a much more detailed review soon. Meanwhile, for those who want to take a look at their website and order couple of organic skin care that actually works, click here.

Update:Price: $31.99 for 100 ml. Looks like the website has some offer going on. Do check it out
